Somapura Mahavira is a famous historical place in the Naogaon district of Bangladesh. It is also known as " Paharpur Mahavihar" which is known for its grandeur monastery.It is situated a small village paharpur & located in northern district Naogaon. During the pala period this monastery was built. Actually it was famous Buddist monastic institutions of ancient Bengal. This structure consists of 177 cells & a traditional Buddhist stupa in the centre. That's rooms were used by the monks for
accommodation & meditation. The site houses the arehitectural remains of a vast Buddist monastery, Somapura Mahavihara, covering 27 acres. It was an important intellectual centre for Dharmic Traditions such as Buddhists, Jains & Hindus alike. In the paharpure stone plate 63 statues can be seen .IN the temple stone plate there many different animal statues can be seen. The Bihar is about 72 feet high from the ground. At last we can say that the place is a symbol of 12th century Buddhism almost ruined.Anyone can visit the great paharpurbhar from Dhaka by bus or train.
